What are your bags made of?

Our bags are made of genuine cowhide leather unless otherwise stated. We refer to our leather as melbourne or embossed. This is the technique that is used to give our bags the look of crocodile or other exotic skin leather. We use a plate to create this look. How do I care for my handbag?

All Brahmin handbags are made from, or trimmed with, genuine cowhide leathers, but some items require additional care to ensure your new handbag will last for years to come. When not in use, we recommend storing all Brahmin handbags in their soft, protective storage bags to keep them free of surface dust and debris and to discourage fading or premature wear. We also strongly recommend avoiding harsh wear and exposure to water, moisture, heat, direct sunlight and alcohol-based products such as hand sanitizer and perfumes which may affect the leather’s finish and prematurely age your handbag. Each article is hand-crafted by technicians in our partner tanneries, so some natural color and print variation is to be expected. This will only enhance your Brahmin’s unique and timeless style. For light-colored leathers, please be cautious when wearing with dark items, especially denim, as the leather may be prone to absorbing dark colors after prolonged wear.

Care for your leather handbag

Use Brahmin leather protector before use and once a month to protect, moisturize and clean the leather on your handbag. Apply a small dime size amount of protector onto a soft clean cloth. Rub into the leather, taking special care with any scratched areas. Then buff off the excess with a soft clean cloth. For dimples and small dents, rub behind the affected area with your hand on the inside of the bag. We highly recommend use of Brahmin leather protector for Brahmin bags and only guarantee our product. We have not tested other brands of protector. Be sure to store your bag in its Brahmin Storage Bag when not in use. For an instructional video on how to properly use your leather protector, click here.

Care for your fabric handbag

All of our fabric bags are specially treated for stain resistance. For leather portions of your fabric handbag use Brahmin Leather Conditioner before use and once a month to protect, moisturize and clean the leather on your handbag. For an instructional video on how to properly use your leather conditioner, click here. Use caution when applying the leather conditioner. Avoid getting conditioner on fabric areas. For all fabric areas of your handbag on all collections except the Harbor Collections, use baby wipes to clean any dirt or stains. For the Harbor Collections dab fabric with a damp cloth. Do not rub. Removing grease or oily spots is difficult. Try applying talcum powder liberally to effected area. Let powder sit for 24 hours, then softly brush off. Be sure to store your bag in its Brahmin Storage Bag when not in use.

Care for your suede handbag

Avoid water, food and oily substances with your bag. If suede should get wet, remove all contents and allow to air dry naturally. To keep suede in good condition brush with a soft suede brush (available at most shoe repair stores) every 3 to 4 months to remove dirt and renew the nap. Removing grease or oily spots can be difficult. Try applying talcum powder liberally to effected area. Let powder sit for 24 hours, then softly brush off. How do I know I am buying an authentic Brahmin?

Due to the ever-growing popularity of our brand, we want to take measures to protect our valued consumers from unauthorized vendors in the event that they are selling counterfeit product.

Our goal is to make our customers aware of counterfeit products sold as genuine Brahmin merchandise. A counterfeit product is any imitation made intended to deceive the consumer into believing it is authentic, and it typically does not compare to the high quality and detailed craftsmanship of an authentic Brahmin handbag.

Brahmin genuine products are not offered through individuals, street vendors, flea markets, unauthorized retail locations, or ‘purse parties’. Be cautious purchasing what is advertised as a Brahmin product on eBay, Craig’s List and other auction websites. Authorized Brahmin retailers do not sell merchandise on eBay trade boards.

When purchasing a Brahmin product, look for a few key characteristics that define a genuine Brahmin product, including an official hanging medallion or logo plaque, our chamois interior lining, and our official handbag registration card intact inside the handbag. Brahmin DOES NOT authenticate merchandise or determine whether serial numbers match actual Brahmin products. You can be certain that an item is authentic if it was purchased from an authorized Brahmin retailer, or from Brahmin.com. For a list of these authorized vendors, please call 800-229-2428.
